THE DREAM HOTEL IN WICKLOW

Location: Powerscourt Hotel Resort & Spa

I’ve always seen those fairytale bedrooms on Instagram and wondered to myself where in the world they are actually situated. Well, I found one. Hidden inside the majestic Powerscourt Hotel, these sorts of rooms exist, complete with featherbeds fit for a princess. I stayed over for one night in Powercourt Hotel for their 10th Anniversary celebration.  We were treated to performances and a special light show which lit up the newly launched amphitheatre. It didn’t just stop at the rooms, Powerscourt had me feeling like a princess for the entire trip…

Location and Rooms

Powerscourt, is a 5* luxury hotel, resort & spa situated on the grounds of the beautiful eponymous estate, with spectacular views across a wooded valley to the Sugar Loaf Mountain. I made my way from Dublin to Enniskerry, Co.Wicklow, which only took a 40 minute drive. Despite the short distance, Powerscourt feels like a million miles away from it all. With its Palladian splendour, Powerscourt Hotel’s stunning architecture begs to be Instagrammed.

I can’t tell you my excitement as we entered the room to find floor-to-ceiling windows and panoramic views just past an enormous king sized featherbed. The decor for the room was –  like the rest of the hotel – regency-chic; it felt inviting yet sophisticated. The room was large yet cosy, complete with a dining area, sitting room, deep set bathtub and separate rainforest shower and two WCs. The main feature however is the aforementioned bed with a picture-book-view over the sugar loaf mountain. It’s amazing how much time you can spend sitting in it and gazing at the beautiful scenery around you.

While I didn’t have time to visit Powerscourt’s spa that features ESPA spa treatments, a 20-metre Swarovski crystal-lit heated pool and a hot-cold Hammam suite, I indulged in a soak in the huge bathtub in our room and enjoyed the recessed television in the bathroom.

Food and Drink

From seriously fine dining at Sika (oh hello, three courses of pure joy!) to low-key lunches at the newly renovated Sugar Loaf lounge, Powerscourt Hotel does food in style. I checked out the beautiful refurbishment of the Sugar Loaf Lounge during my stay and the interior is oh-so chic. We tried almost the whole selection of mini desserts at the party and let me tell you, it was the stuff of this chocolate-lover’s dreams.  A highlight of the trip was the room service experience, our food arrived complete with old-school trollies and dome cloches. I had the club sambo (it’s a must!) and mum had bangers and mash! The food was piping hot which is surprisingly hard to achieve when it comes to room service.

What to Expect

I had been craving some time to get away, with peace and quiet and to simply enjoy every moment. And that I certainly did. As soon as we arrived, and continuing until we left, I had marked Powerscourt down as a place I must visit again. I felt pampered and in the height of mountain resort luxury, I’m still in awe of what a wonderful retreat this place is.

Who would love this hotel? Nature-lovers — the hotel has an unrivalled location on the Powerscourt Estate, overlooked by the Sugar Loaf Mountain. Equally, for couples on a romantic weekend away or city dwellers who want to retreat because, let’s face it, some people check in to hotels simply to enjoy a leisurely soak and dinner under the covers.

Thank you so much to Powerscourt for letting us stay! We cannot wait to return!
