Wood-fired Tubs, Beautiful Lush Pastures & A Heavenly Spa
Location: Galgorm Resort & Spa
Looking at the photo above of the rustic wood-fired tub surrounded by lush woodland, and imagining the picturesque destination for this treatment, you potentially think Geneva, Lake Garda, Tuscany, right? Well, guess again. The opportunity arose to visit Galgorm Resort and Spa, a magnificent resort nestled in the countryside of Co.Antrim, Northern Ireland.
Galgorm Resort and Spa is situated in 163 acres of stunning scenery and next to the spectacular River Maine. A former gentleman’s manor, the resort has become well known for its extremely unique selling point, the thermal village, offering guests the opportunity to experience a thermal spa like no other.
Location and Rooms
Galgorm Resort & Spa is surrounded by picturesque countryside and cinematic views of the River Maine. Greeted by a friendly doorman, the scent from the two fireplaces filling the lobby and the country house interiors with plenty of Irish charm. I feel instantly at ease!
We booked into a Deluxe River View Room for two nights. It was really spacious with a seating area as well as a king-size bed and bathroom. The room had a complimentary mini bar and snacks (an unexpected and lovely treat). The River Maine runs straight through the grounds and by the riverview rooms, so soothing sounds of the water helped me ease off to sleep.
Galgorm’s world-famous thermal spa is a treat for the eyes and senses. Galgorm’s thermal village houses a number of thermal pools, both inside and outside. Plus a Snow Cabin, Celtic Sauna, River House and Sanarium that can be enjoyed by all hotel guests. The atmosphere was just so calming and relaxed, with couples and groups of friends moving quietly here to there, enjoying some peace and quiet on their luxury stay.
We were treated to the Riverside Bathing Experience for an hour for some further thermal relaxation. A unique experience to say the least – soaking in an authentic, wood-fired, eco-friendly tub with views of the River Maine. I truly recommend this treatment if you’re looking for a really romantic, or special catch up with a friend. Chilled, relaxed and ever so romantic. We relaxed in the tub, sipping champagne, eating the stawberries and chocolates provided before throwing on our robes and slippers and heading back to one of the thermal suite. We spent almost our entire second day at the thermal village and I still did not want to leave!
Food & Drink
For meat-lovers the hotel will not disappoint. We ate at the Gillies Grill, where local ingredients are used to create some of the most mouth-watering dishes, from grilled steaks to burgers. The food was exquisite and do not get me started on the Ferraro Roche cheesecake. The staff were fantastic, the ambiance felt so chilled.
Fratelli Ristorante offers more of an Italian affair, we dined there on the first night. I could eat Italian food every day for the rest of my life so I was excited to try out this restaurant! Disappointingly, I found the dishes to be mediocre at best. The pizza dough was ‘American style’ thick and the pizza was covered in a chilli sauce. It may be a more family-friendly restaurant than the style of Italian food that I love!
We had breakfast in The River Room, overlooking the incredible view of the babbling brooks and river. I was delighted there was such a good choice on the menu too. I had the breakfast grill and it was delicious. The breathtaking view from the room made it one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve ever had!
What to Expect
And the final note, just to tell you why this resort really is as wonderful as I’m suggesting, it is also within a 30-45 minute drive of the The Giant’s Causeway and The Dark Hedges (a shooting location for Game of Thrones). We headed to both of these spots on our last day, taking in the beauty of Northern Ireland, which I highly recommend you do; just in case you were actually thinking of skipping that step. But it made our trip so much more interesting, cultural and exciting.
I would highly recommend Galgorm Resort & Spa to couples in all age brackets as I truly think the beauty and relaxation this hotel offers, extends to the majority of ages. A trip to Galgorm would be the ultimate girl’s weekend away too for the delicious food and amazing thermal village. I always found the hotel to be extremely family-friendly as well! It’s worth mentioning that my visit to Galgorm sparked plenty of messages on Instagram with glowing reviews from others who have loved their stay at the beautiful resort as much as I did.
Thank you so much to Galgorm for inviting us to stay!
